Terms of service
Fair and transparent terms for a free video editor. Contact us if you have any questions.
Your Content, Your Rights
You own everything you create. We make no claim to ownership, licensing, or rights over your videos, projects, or anything you produce with Lucy - including content produced by our AI features.
- Your projects, imported media and exports are stored on your device, not on our servers
- You retain all intellectual property rights to your content
- You can export and use your content however you choose
- No watermarks, no licensing restrictions from Lucy
- We do not use your content or prompts to train models
How You Can Use Lucy
Lucy is free to use, for personal and commercial work. You can:
- Create videos for personal, educational, or commercial purposes
- Use Lucy for client work and paid projects
- Share and distribute videos created with Lucy
You're responsible for how you use Lucy and the content you create. Don't use it for anything illegal in your jurisdiction, and don't use the AI features to impersonate real people or to generate content you have no right to make.
AI features and third parties
Some features run on your device and some do not, and it is worth being precise about which.
On your device: editing, automatic captions and transcription, background removal, and smart clips. The media involved is not uploaded.
Sent to a third party: AI image and video generation sends your prompt and any reference image to Tencent Cloud. AI music generation, where enabled, sends your description to musicapi.ai. Stock media searches go to Pixabay, Freesound or Jamendo. These services have their own terms, and your use of those features is subject to them as well as to ours.
Some future features will upload media for server-side processing - for example restyling a clip with AI. Where that is the case we will make it clear at the point of use.
Stock media carries the licence its author chose. Where a track or clip requires attribution, Lucy shows you the credit line you need to publish; complying with that licence is your responsibility.
Accounts and tokens
You can edit without an account. AI features require one, and they consume tokens from your balance. Tokens are consumed when a generation is submitted; if a generation fails on our side, we refund the tokens for it.
The service is provided "as is" without warranties. While we strive for reliability, we can't guarantee uninterrupted service, and third-party AI providers can fail or change independently of us.
Limitations and Liability
Lucy is provided free of charge. To the extent permitted by law:
- We're not liable for any loss of data or content
- Projects are stored in your browser and may be lost if you clear browser data
- We're not responsible for how you use the service
- Our liability is limited to the maximum extent allowed by law
Because your projects are stored in your browser rather than on our servers, we have no copy of them and cannot recover a project that is lost when browser data is cleared or a device fails. Export anything you care about when you finish editing.
Service Changes
We may update Lucy and these terms:
- We'll notify you of significant changes to these terms
- Continued use means you accept any updates
- Major changes will be announced in the changelog
Stopping Use
You can stop using Lucy at any time:
- Clear your browser data to remove local projects and media
- Ask us to delete your account and the data associated with it
